Woodmere wildlife control tip of the month:
What should I do if I find a nest of rats in the attic?
There are several signs that would indicate that you have a rat problem in your attic, first of these would probably be a lot of noise
either during the day or the night, scratching sounds and things of that nature. In the case that you find a proper nest of rats in your attic, it is crucial that you consider the best methods
of their Woodmere animal control as soon as possible in order to prevent any future problems that they might cause. If you are not able to call a Woodmere wildlife removal to take care of the problem, there are several important guidelines to follow in order to successfully remove the rats from your home.
The first course of action should be to thoroughly check and inspect the entire home and the attic in order to identify all the possible entrance holes that the rats use to get inside of your house. This is a very important step and should be done properly before you start with the removal of the rats;
otherwise the Woodmere wildlife removal will be in vain since new rats will simply keep on coming in. Check all the vent pipes, roof lines, any crevices from ground up in order to identify all the entry locations. Once you’ve done that successfully, the next thing to do is to
properly seal off each and every one of those holes you’ve found. Seal them permanently, with steel if possible since rats are able to chew through a variety of materials, and this would be the best bet.
With that in order, the next thing to do is to identify the paths that rats use to get around your attic,
they use the same paths most of the time and you should be able to clearly identify them based on the amount of droppings in that area. Now set the traps along those paths with attractive bait and let them sit there for some time so all the rats would get trapped. Inspect the traps often and replace the bait if needed, peanut butter is a good option for bait always.
Only after you’ve made sure that all the rats have been trapped should you commence the cleaning of the attic. A good idea is to leave an extra 2-3 days since the last rat activity for some additional time in case there are any remaining rats left in the attic. Now you can begin to disinfect the area and proceed with the removal of the waste left by the rats.
Make sure to always wear proper protective clothing while cleaning since the feces can pose a health risk to humans.
Once you’ve cleaned up everything, check up on the attic occasionally to make sure that there are no returning rats and that everything is in order.
